About The Role
Position Overview
We are seeking an Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) Engineer with strong experience in power‑island systems and engineering deliverables development from a project‑execution standpoint. This role is not primarily a PLC programming or networking position — it is an engineering role focused on specifications, design packages, documentation, and technical oversight for major power‑plant equipment.
The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience with GTG, HRSG, ACC, Steam Turbines, packaged equipment, and GE/Baker Hughes Mark VI controls, along with familiarity in ASME Code 31.1 and SPI (SmartPlant Instrumentation).
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver engineering documentation including instrument specifications, control narratives, logic diagrams, loop sheets, cause‑and‑effect matrices, and project technical packages
- Provide I&C engineering support for Gas Turbine Generators (GTG), Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSG), Air‑Cooled Condensers (ACC), Steam Turbines, and associated balance‑of‑plant systems
- Review vendor documentation for packaged equipment and ensure proper integration into plant control systems
- Support project teams with technical oversight, design reviews, and coordination with EPCs, OEMs, and internal engineering groups
- Ensure compliance with ASME Code 31.1 Power Piping, plant standards, and project specifications
- Utilize SmartPlant Instrumentation (SPI) for instrument index management, loop development, and deliverable control
- Provide engineering support during commissioning and startup (documentation, punch‑list resolution, technical clarification)
- Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, and technical evaluations related to instrumentation and control systems
- Lead or support engineering deliverables for upgrades, retrofits, and reliability improvements across the power island
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of I&C engineering experience in power generation, combined‑cycle, or industrial energy environments
- Demonstrated experience with:
- GTG, HRSG, ACC, Steam Turbines
- GE/Baker Hughes Mark VI / Mark VIe control systems
- Packaged equipment instrumentation & controls
- SPI (SmartPlant Instrumentation)
- ASME Code 31.1 Power Code
- Strong background in engineering deliverables development (specs, drawings, narratives, logic documentation)
- Experience supporting project engineering, design reviews, and technical documentation workflows
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with EPC contractors or OEMs on major power‑island scopes
- Familiarity with DCS integration (high‑level understanding only; no PLC programming required)
- Field engineering or commissioning support experience
- Professional Engineering (PE) license or progress toward licensure
Soft Skills
- Strong communication and technical writing abilities
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and project teams
- Detail‑oriented with strong documentation discipline
- Comfortable working in a project‑driven environment with deadlines and deliverable milestones
