WHAT YOU’LL DO
The Mathematics Teaching Fellows Program at Avenues São Paulo is a two-year professional formation program designed for emerging math educators with foundational teaching experience who are seeking to deepen their instructional practice within a highly collaborative and intellectually rigorous environment.
Through mentorship, co-teaching, observation, instructional coaching, and gradually increasing teaching responsibilities, fellows develop the knowledge, habits, and pedagogical skills necessary to become outstanding mathematics teachers. Fellows work closely with experienced faculty and engage deeply with Avenues’ problem-based approach to mathematics instruction. 
Throughout the fellowship, participants have opportunities to
- Co-teach and collaborate closely with experienced mathematics faculty
- Observe and analyze strong instructional practices across grade levels
- Gradually assume increasing responsibility for planning and leading instruction
- Engage in ongoing feedback, reflection, and instructional coaching
- Contribute to a collaborative teaching culture centered on student learning
In this role, you will also

- Collaborate intensively with colleagues to deepen student learning
- Build positive and professional relationships with students and families

Successful fellows will leave the program well prepared for future lead teaching opportunities within rigorous, student-centered schools, including potential full-time teaching opportunities at Avenues.
Mathematics in grades 8–12 is taught through constructivist practices centered on student discussion, collaboration, and problem solving. Students present their thinking, reflect on mistakes, and build conceptual understanding through mathematical discourse and inquiry. Teachers facilitate these discussions to guide students toward increasingly sophisticated understanding.
WHAT YOU BRING
Mathematics Fellows at Avenues bring many or most of the following
- A bachelor’s degree or equivalent study in mathematics, mathematics education, or a related field
- At least two years of teaching, teaching assistant, tutoring, coaching, or other meaningful experience working with students in educational settings
- A remarkable entrepreneurial drive, creativity and ability to bring new ideas to fruition
- Desire to develop a pedagogical practice that engages all students in interesting, meaningful and challenging work
- Intellectual curiosity and humility, to reflect, welcome feedback, and continually grow in teaching practice
- A strong sense of personal responsibility for the growth and success of every student
- Alignment with student-centered and inquiry-based approaches to teaching and learning
