Job Description
The Chemistry Laboratory Instructor will primarily focus on General Chemistry and inorganic chemistry laboratory sessions. This role involves teaching and mentoring undergraduate students in a dynamic laboratory setting. This is a temporary, 40 week position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and instruct four laboratory sessions per week for small groups of 12-14 students.
- Prepare and organize laboratory materials, reagents, and equipment for experiments.
- Grade student assignments and hold regular student hours to provide support and answer questions.
- Attend lectures to ensure alignment between lecture content and laboratory exercises.
- Oversee the maintenance of shared departmental laboratory equipment and supplies.
- Potentially assist with the recruitment, coordination, and organization of student laboratory teaching assistants, including supervision and mentorship.
- Work safely and effectively in a laboratory environment, handling a wide range of hazardous materials in accordance with safety protocols.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry.
- Demonstrated laboratory teaching experience.
- Familiarity with standard laboratory techniques, including manipulative, preparative, chromatographic, and spectroscopic methods.
- A strong commitment to safety in a laboratory setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- An advanced degree in Chemistry.
- A genuine passion for laboratory teaching.
- Experience mentoring students from diverse backgrounds, including but not limited to differences in race, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion.
Hiring Range: $47,828 - $53,807 based on academic year, 40 week position
