About us

Come grow with us! The Oklahoma Forensic Center (OFC) located in Vinita, OK is a 24 hour/ 365 day secure inpatient forensic facility that provides jail competency services for the State of Oklahoma. Currently, OFC has 268 beds for consumers who have been found Incompetent for adjudication or adjudicated as Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity.

About the Position

Here at the Oklahoma Forensic Center the Recreation department is hiring for Recreation Therapists that would be responsible for planning, organizing, directing and conducting client therapy programs and instructing or supervise clients in an inpatient behavioral health facility.

Open/Close dates : 7 / 2 /202 6 -until filled

  • Hourly payrate: Level I-$20.19, Level II-$21.15, III-$22.35
  • Primary Working Hours are 8:00am-4:30pm
  • FLSA Status : Non -Exempt
  • Primary Work Location/Department: Oklahoma Forensic Center/Recreation Department

Minimum Qualifications and Experience

Recreation Therapist I -

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation, physical education or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Recreation Therapist II -

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a master’s degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation or physical education; or a bachelor's degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation or physical education and one year of experience in recreational therapy; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Recreation Therapist III -

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a master’s degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation or physical education and one year of experience in recreational therapy; or a bachelor’s degree in recreational therapy, outdoor recreation or physical education and two years of experience in recreational therapy; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; or a bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation and certification by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC).

Note: Persons eligible to sit for the national exam provided by the NCTRC may apply and be selected, but must obtain certification within the six-month probationary period.

Recreational Activities Specialist I -

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of one year of experience in instructing/directing a community service or recreational program; or in closely related work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Recreational Activities Specialist II -

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree in physical education, recreation, recreational therapy, or a closely related field; or a bachelor’s degree and one year of experience in instructing/directing a community service or recreational program; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Recreational Activities Specialist III -

Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelors degree in physical education or in a closely related field and two years of experience in group physical education recreational therapy; or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Special Requirements

  • May be required to work occasional weekends.
  • Applicants must be willing and able to fulfill any job-related travel normally associated with this position and as such have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to pass an OSBI background check.
