R&D Rubber Materials Chemist/Engineer

Prysmian Group is seeking a hands-on innovator and change champion with deep expertise in rubber and polymer materials to join our Product Development team. Reporting to the Product Development Manager , you will play a critical role in advancing our materials technology, formulation development and supporting the growth of high-performance cable solutions .

In this role, you will collaborate with internal teams and customers to understand application needs and engineer advanced rubber compounds that drive product performance, reliability, and manufacturability.

What You’ll Do

As a Rubber Materials Chemist, you will own end-to-end development of elastomer-based solutions , from concept through commercialization:

  • Design, develop, and optimize rubber and elastomeric compounds for advanced applications
  • Conduct applied research and formulation work to improve material properties such as flexibility, durability, thermal resistance, and electrical performance
  • Lead new product development (NPD) initiatives, including requirement gathering, testing, validation, and commercialization
  • Modify and enhance existing rubber formulations to improve product functionality, cost-efficiency, and performance
  • Plan and execute laboratory experiments , pilot trials, and production-scale validations
  • Analyze mechanical, thermal, and electrical test data to drive material improvements and innovation
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and commercial teams to successfully launch new products
  • Support new product introduction (NPI) and continuous improvement initiatives across business segments
  • Develop detailed technical documentation, formulations, and specifications for manufacturing scale-up
  • Stay at the forefront of advancements in rubber compounding, elastomer chemistry, and materials science

What You Bring

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Polymer/Materials Science, Chemistry , or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in rubber compounding, elastomer development, or materials engineering
  • Strong understanding of rubber formulation, additives, fillers, curing systems, and processing
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams in a manufacturing or product development environment
  • Passion for developing high-performance, cost-effective materials that drive business success

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3–7 years of hands-on experience in rubber or polymer product development
  • Experience supporting lab, pilot, and production trials in an industrial setting
  • Knowledge of applications such as cable insulation, jacketing, or industrial elastomers
  • Familiarity with material testing methods (mechanical, rheological, thermal, electrical)

Work Environment

  • Combination of lab, pilot, and office environments
  • Hands-on work with compounding equipment and testing instruments
  • Ability to lift 10–25 lbs regularly and up to 30 lbs occasionally
  • Fast-paced, collaborative environment requiring adaptability and problem-solving
  • Occasional travel as required
