Summary
Assists Landscape Operations Manager in directing the activities of employees engaged in landscape and sanitation duties. Coordinates and directs special projects pertaining to landscaping/sanitation with direct responsibility for supervising employees, monitoring preventative maintenance programs, and inventorying parts and supplies. Maintains Grounds, Hardscape, Beach, and Tennis Courts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensures neatness and cleanliness of landscaping, engineering shop and all engineering storage areas of responsibility.
- Supervises/Directs Landscape personnel.
- Consults and, if necessary, assists on work assigned to Grounds.
- Ensures quality control and work standards are maintained and regularly updated to meet changing department and property needs.
- Monitors and implements preventative maintenance programs by maintaining accurate logs and records and effectively planning and scheduling preventative maintenance programs that pertain to grounds & vehicles.
- Maintains inventories of repair parts and consumable supplies to minimize downtime and maximize cash flow as approved by engineering management.
- Physically inspects assigned daily. Makes recommendations for corrections.
- Inspects jobs for quality and compliance to specifications.
- Makes sure that safety program is followed, and that crews are working safely.
- Responds to customer requests in a cooperative, positive and responsive manner.
- Maintains consistent quality standards set by company. Understands the concept of quality as it relates to employees, customers and work output.
- Makes minor repairs and ensures equipment is maintained through preventative maintenance program, and that equipment is maintained in a clean and safe manner.
- Cuts lawns. Trims and edges around walks, flower beds, and walls.
- Prunes shrubs and trees to shape and improve growth or remove damaged leaves, branches, or twigs.
- Cleans grounds and removes litter.
- Plants grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs. Waters lawn and shrubs.
- Operates all power equipment correctly and can train others in correct and safe operation of landscape power equipment.
- Inspects operating machines and equipment for conformance with operational standards.
- Installs, repairs and maintains irrigation system.
- Maintains tennis courts, makes minor repairs and ensures tennis courts are in top condition at all times.
- Maintains and repairs turf on 3 par golf course by mowing at proper heights and seeding top dressing and ensuring fertilization is completed on regular schedule.
- Responsible for consistent irrigation of all landscape areas.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Accident Prevention and Safety
- Analyzes tasks for potential dangers and promptly corrects hazards or informs supervisor and/or safety committee representative.
- Follows safety rules and regulations at all times.
OUTCOME
The overall maintenance of the Grounds/Tennis Courts and Beach which influence guest and co-employee impression of the total organization. Clean, well-maintained facilities and equipment will contribute to guest comfort and satisfaction.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in the supervision of employees in the Grounds Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from Two‑year College or technical school; or six months to one-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively in English with customers, managers, vendors, or employees of organization. Bilingual is a plus but not required.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Must have valid California driver’s license.

Employees in the position of engineering/grounds interact frequently with all the departments, tenants and guests. Employees must have the ability to communicate effectively and work with the many departments along with designated guests or vendors.
SCHEDULING
This company operates seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Shifts will generally be rotated unless you were hired for a specific shift, as much as possible to be fair to everyone. Be aware that at times it may be necessary to move you from your accustomed shift if business or task assignments demand.
