General Description

The purpose of this class is to assist in the maintenance of county facilities and related systems.

Duties and Responsibilities

The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.

  • Replaces lighting ballasts and bulbs.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs electrical malfunctions.
  • Repairs plumbing systems, including sump pumps, fountain pump motors, and landscape irrigation.
  • Maintains HVAC systems.
  • Maintains smoke alarms.
  • Repairs bathroom fixtures.
  • Basic carpentry, painting, and construction skills.
  • Delivers building supplies, bathroom and office items, interoffice memoranda, and keys.
  • Maintains common work area; maintains tools and equipment.
  • Responsible for completion of a wide variety of work orders.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

  • Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Requires one year of experience in construction, facility maintenance or repair or closely related experience.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.

The work is typically performed in a motor vehicle and outdoor setting or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, crouching, or stooping. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.

The work is typically performed outdoors; possibly in cold and inclement weather. The employee is expose to dust, noise, grease, machinery and chemicals. The work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, eye protection, gloves, etc.

Emergency Preparedness Tier Level: 3

Special Certifications and Licenses

Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
