Focus of Activity: Stewardship Research and Automation

The Sustainability & Stewardship Office is part of the Platform Sustainability team within the Investment Division. It is responsible for DWS’s stewardship activities and for coordinating sustainability-related initiatives, including disclosures and related communications.

The Stewardship Standards & Processes Team sits within the Sustainability & Stewardship Office and is accountable for DWS’s engagement and proxy voting processes, the development and maintenance of stewardship standards, the enhancement of environmental and social (E&S) standards, and the leadership of E&S engagement activities.

Within the Stewardship Standards & Processes Team, we are seeking a data-driven, quantitative professional with relevant experience in fundamental company including sustainability factors, cash-flow assessment and DCF-based valuation. The ideal candidate understands how environmental, social, and governance factors impact long-term corporate valuation, while possessing the Python programming skills to build the tools that measure these effects. You will be responsible for building automated pipelines, quantitative models, and screening tools that help our stewardship team identify risk exposures, assess real-world corporate impacts, and prioritize companies for targeted engagement. You will also contribute to the the design and automation of engagement and proxy voting processes and the implementation of associated controls.

Key responsibilities

  • Actively contributes to the enhancement and maintenance of the DWS Stewardship program and related processes.
  • Conduct fundamental research on portfolio companies to assess how external factors (e.g., climate transition risks, supply chain labor practices, regulatory shifts) impact corporate business models and long-term valuation.
  • Model Building: Develop quantitative frameworks and scenario-analysis models to translate qualitative ESG risks (like carbon pricing or governance failures) into quantifiable financial impacts combining fundamental analysis, financial statement review, cash-flow analysis, DCF-based valuation and ESG assessment, while leveraging available tools (Python, Qlik, AI/LLMs/Power Automate).
  • Engagement Strategy: Provide data-driven insights and briefing materials to support portfolio managers and the stewardship team in their active engagements with company management and boards.
  • Develop, execute, and automate controls for stewardship activities to support compliance with established standards and expectations.

Key Skills & Experience

  • Masters degree in Economics / Finance or a similar discipline, paired with a highly technical undergraduate degree (e.g. Computer Science, Engineering, or Data Science).
  • Proficiency in Python for data analysis, modelling, and automation, with the ability to apply and leverage AI models for process automation
  • 3+ years of relevant experience in investment research, company analysis or a comparable analytical role, with demonstrated ability to assess business models, financial statements, cash flows, valuation drivers and sustainability / ESG risks and opportunities.
  • Experience preparing cash-flow forecasts, analysing value drivers and applying valuation techniques to support investment-relevant company assessments.
  • Experience in supporting the design, implementation, and maintenance of operational processes
  • Strong analytical and methodological thinking, combined with a solution-oriented and proactive approach
  • Excellent coordination and communication skills to support project delivery and stakeholder alignment across teams
  • Able to effectively handle multiple tasks and consistently meet strict deadlines
