Structural Steel Shop Lead

Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Structural Steel Shop Lead to oversee daily fabrication activities in a structural steel manufacturing environment. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for coordinating shop operations, supporting production schedules, and providing guidance to welders and fitters while promoting quality, safety, and efficiency.

The ideal candidate has a strong background in structural steel fabrication, enjoys leading production teams, and can effectively manage workflow in a fast-paced shop.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily operations for structural steel fitters, welders, and fabrication personnel
• Coordinate workloads to meet production schedules and shipping deadlines
• Provide technical support for fit-up, welding, layout, and blueprint interpretation
• Monitor production and resolve fabrication or workflow issues
• Communicate schedule updates and production concerns with shop leadership
• Promote workplace safety and ensure compliance with quality standards and shop procedures
• Work with maintenance personnel to minimize equipment downtime
• Maintain an organized and safe fabrication area
• Assist with employee training, onboarding, and performance development
• Partner with Quality Control to verify fabrication accuracy
• Support dimensional inspections, documentation, and other shop activities as needed
