About the Role

The Department of Clinical Genomics at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center invites applications for a full-time physician to join a novel and rapidly expanding program dedicated to precision cancer prevention, hereditary cancer risk assessment, and longitudinal care for high-risk patients and families.

This innovative department serves as a specialized medical home for individuals at increased cancer risk due to genetics or family history, combining advanced genetic counseling, precision prevention strategies, and coordinated multidisciplinary care. Reporting directly to Kenan Onel, the successful candidate will help shape the future of clinical cancer genomics within one of the nation’s leading cancer centers.

While prior experience in cancer genetics is welcomed, the most important quality we seek is a genuine intellectual curiosity and deep interest in genetics, hereditary cancer risk, precision prevention, and the rapidly evolving future of genomic medicine. What You’ll Do

  • Provide comprehensive care for pediatric and adult patients at elevated hereditary cancer risk
  • Coordinate ongoing surveillance, prevention, and wellness strategies for individuals and families with inherited cancer predisposition syndromes
  • Collaborate closely with genetic counselors, advanced practice providers, specialty clinics, and multidisciplinary oncology teams
  • Support patient-centered precision prevention initiatives utilizing the latest advancements in genomic medicine and cancer risk assessment
  • Help guide patients and families through complex hereditary cancer care pathways
  • Contribute to the continued growth and evolution of Roswell Park’s Clinical Genomics program
  • Help drive clinical innovation and advance precision prevention models for high-risk populations
  • Participate in the development of new clinical initiatives, workflows, and multidisciplinary care programs
  • Support efforts that enhance Roswell Park’s national and international reputation in hereditary cancer and genomic medicine
  • Participate in clinical, translational, and precision prevention research initiatives
  • Engage in clinical trials and innovative genomic medicine programs
  • Pursue scholarly activities including publications, presentations, and collaborative research opportunities
  • Contribute to the academic mission through mentorship, teaching, and interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Mentor students, residents, fellows, and trainees interested in cancer genetics and genomic medicine
  • Work closely with genetic counselors, clinicians, scientists, and specialty programs across Roswell Park
  • Foster strong collaborative relationships within a highly multidisciplinary academic environment
  • Support a culture aligned with High Reliability Organization principles emphasizing innovation, accountability, compassion, and patient-centered care

About the Department

The Department of Clinical Genomics at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center is an innovative precision prevention program dedicated to diagnosing and managing hereditary cancer risk across the lifespan. The department integrates genetic counseling, genomic medicine, risk assessment, surveillance, and prevention services to support patients and families with inherited cancer predisposition syndromes.

The program currently includes physicians, advanced practice providers, board-certified genetic counselors, and dedicated support staff, with continued rapid expansion underway. Clinical Genomics works closely with numerous high-risk specialty clinics and multidisciplinary oncology teams throughout Roswell Park to advance the future of precision cancer prevention.

What You’ll Bring

  • MD, MD/PhD, or DO with completion of ACGME-approved residency training in Med/Peds, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Pediatrics
  • Board Certification or Board Eligibility in an applicable specialty
  • A strong intellectual interest and curiosity in genetics, hereditary cancer syndromes, genomic medicine, and precision cancer prevention
  • Passion for delivering thoughtful, patient-centered care for high-risk patients and families across the lifespan
  • Interest in developing expertise within the rapidly evolving field of clinical cancer genetics

Required Education and Experience

License and Certification Requirement

  1. License to practice as a Medical Doctor in the State of New York.
  2. Possession of or eligibility for a valid medical specialty certificate in General Internal Medicine, Family Practice or other related medical specialty.

Education and Experience

Medical Doctor degree in the field of General Internal Medicine.

NOTE: Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited school, college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.
