System Administrator / DevOps Engineer at Phaistos

As a Sysadmin / DevOps Engineer, you will help build, maintain, and improve our infrastructure, ensuring it is secure, scalable, and reliable. You will work on automation, CI/CD, monitoring, and infrastructure improvements while contributing to the continuous evolution of our DevOps practices.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, upgrade, and patch our servers, operating systems, and software.
• Automate repetitive operational tasks and infrastructure workflows.
• Evaluate, deploy, and maintain new technologies to improve our infrastructure and services.
• Develop and maintain ChatOps integrations to streamline operations.
• Improve our CI/CD pipelines for faster, more reliable builds and deployments.
• Monitor infrastructure, troubleshoot issues, and collaborate with the R&D team to resolve them.
• Enhance observability through monitoring, logging, and alerting.
• Design and maintain high-availability solutions, including redundancy, load balancing, and failover mechanisms.
• Implement and regularly test backup and disaster recovery procedures.
• Maintain infrastructure security by applying updates, hardening systems, and managing access controls.
• Create and maintain infrastructure documentation and operational runbooks.

Skills & Qualifications

You should have

• Experience administering Ubuntu/Linux systems.
• Working knowledge of Bash scripting and basic PHP scripting.
• Experience with Docker and containerized/microservice-based architectures.
• Experience configuring and maintaining web servers such as Apache and Nginx.
• Experience with relational databases (e.g., MySQL or MariaDB).
• A strong understanding of security best practices and a commitment to protecting user privacy.
• Good troubleshooting and analytical skills.
• Good verbal and written communication skills in both Greek and English.
• The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams.

Will be considered a plus

The following qualifications will be considered an advantage

• Comfortable programming in at least one language (e.g., PHP, Go, Python, or Bash).
• Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
• Familiarity with GDPR and data protection best practices.
• A degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience working in a high-availability production environment.
• Experience with one or more of the following technologies: HAProxy, Nomad, Consul, Jenkins, BIND (named), Bacula, Memcached, Postfix, iptables
