Summary of Job Duties
Under the direction of the Head Women’s Tennis Coach, the Assistant Women’s Tennis Coach provides specialized technical, tactical, and performance support for the NCAA Division I women’s tennis program. This position requires advanced knowledge of tennis performance methodology, sport science principles, NCAA Division I recruiting strategies, and high-performance athlete development.
The Assistant Coach contributes to the design and execution of training systems, match preparation strategies, opponent scouting, and individualized player development plans. The role also supports compliance-driven recruitment of academically and athletically qualified student-athletes in accordance with NCAA, SEC, and institutional regulations.
This position requires expertise typically gained through formal education in sports science, kinesiology, exercise science, or a closely related field, combined with high-level competitive and/or coaching experience in elite tennis environments.
Regular, reliable and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Sport Management, Sport Science, or a closely related discipline
- At least one year of collegiate, elite junior, national, or professional tennis coaching experience full-time, part-time and/or graduate assistant role applies
- Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and regulations
- Experience in structured athlete development environments and competitive performance settings
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Sport Science, Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, or related field
- At least two years of coaching experience at the NCAA Division I, elite junior, national, or professional level full-time, part-time and/or graduate assistant role applies
- Experience within a Power 4 athletic conference program
- Prior experience in high-performance tennis development systems (national or international pathways)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Advanced understanding of tennis biomechanics, performance strategy, and elite athlete development principles
- Knowledge of NCAA and Southeastern Conference rules and compliance frameworks
- Ability to apply sport science concepts to coaching practice (movement efficiency, workload management, recovery principles)
- Strong analytical skills related to performance video and statistical evaluation
- Proven ability to recruit and evaluate student-athletes at the Division I level
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills
- Ability to foster a high-performance culture emphasizing accountability, sportsmanship, and competitive excellence
- Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and extensive travel
