About The Role

The Blood Bank Veterinary Assistant provides operational, administrative, and client support for the Veterinary Teaching Hospital Blood Bank program. This position assists with donor coordination, inventory and supply management, client communication recordkeeping, and daily workflow activities to ensure efficient blood bank operations and support the availability of blood products for patient care. The role also provides cross-functional support to other services as needed.,

Essential Job Duties

  • Coordinate blood donor appointments, client communication, and donor follow-up activities to support donor recruitment and retention.
  • Maintain blood bank inventory, supplies, and records, including monitoring stock levels, organizing materials, and reporting shortages or concerns.
  • Assist with preparation and organization of blood collection and processing areas to support efficient daily operations.
  • Support administrative functions including data entry, record maintenance, scheduling, filing, and document management.
  • Following completion of training and approval by the Blood Bank Coordinator and supervising veterinarian, assist with patient handling, donor preparation, blood product processing, and quality control activities in accordance with service protocols and hospital policies.
  • Provide operational support to the Blood Bank by assisting with daily workflow tasks, stocking supplies, and other related duties as assigned.

No formal supervisory duties

Conditions of Employment

  • Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for new hires)
  • Essential Services Designation: Required to report without delay or interruption to provide essential or emergency services to ensure health, safety and welfare.

Minimum Education

High school diploma or GED.

Minimum Experience

  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience working in a veterinary clinical setting.
  • Experience providing customer service and communicating effectively with clients, students, and veterinary healthcare teams.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records, manage multiple tasks, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency with basic computer applications and electronic medical record systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Veterinary assistant experience in a specialty, emergency, teaching hospital, or blood bank setting.
  • Experience with inventory management, supply ordering, and recordkeeping.
  • Experience coordinating appointments, scheduling, or client communication.
  • Familiarity with veterinary medical terminology and hospital workflows.
  • Experience working with blood donor programs, transfusion medicine, or laboratory procedures.

Salary Range

$37,440 - $41,600
