About The Role

The Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences seeks applicants for a 9-month tenure track Assistant Professor position. The Assistant Professor is expected to develop an internationally recognized research program, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, advise students, and provide service to the university and profession. The role will demonstrate a commitment to CSU’s mission through teaching, research, and/or service.

This position will contribute to teaching in the toxicology graduate program, including possible course development within the faculty member's area of expertise. Mentoring of undergraduate and graduate students is expected in experiential learning opportunities.

This position will be expected to develop an independent and sustainable program of scholarly research related to the cellular and molecular mechanisms of toxic effects of pharmaceutical and/or environmental exposures. This will complement the existing expertise in neurotoxicology, forensic and analytical toxicology, cellular and molecular toxicology, cancer biology, radiation biology, epidemiology and environmental health. Collaborations with investigators across the university will be encouraged.

This position will serve on departmental, college, and/or university committees; participate in professional organizations relating to discipline interests; and engage in the advancement of toxicological sciences in a variety of outreach capacities.

Description of Work Unit

The Department of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences ( ERHS ) houses academic, research and clinical programs that address the promotion of human and animal health. The mission of the department is to deliver excellent education in environmental and radiological health to prepare students to contribute to society; to conduct state of the art research in human and animal health focusing on environmental exposures and clinical applications; and to promote excellence in outreach and service to the citizens of Colorado, the United States, and globally through information transfer, research, continuing education and technical assistance. ERHS is unique in its multifactorial approach to disease that involves chemical, physical, and biological factors. ERHS provides undergraduate and graduate programs leading to BS, MS and PhD degrees. The Department has a strong tradition in occupational and environmental health, epidemiology, occupational ergonomics and safety, industrial hygiene, toxicology and health physics. Research and collaboration opportunities exist throughout the Department, the University, and at the Center for Work, Health & the Environment at the Colorado School of Public Health.

Full Consideration Date

Essential Job Duties

  • Teach and mentor students at the undergraduate and graduate levels, including course and curriculum development. (40%)
  • Conduct and publish research, pursue external funding, and contribute to scholarly advancement in the field. (50%)
  • Provide service to the department, university, profession, and community in support of CSU’s mission. (10%)

Conditions of Employment

Pre-employment Criminal Background Check (required for all new hires)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Terminal degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in the relevant discipline
  • Evidence of research productivity or strong potential to establish a sustainable scholarly program (e.g., publications, presentations, grant activity).
  • Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the undergraduate and/or graduate level.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background and knowledge adequate to teach more than one of the core courses in the graduate Toxicology curriculum (Fundamentals of Toxicology, Metabolism and Disposition of Toxic Agents, Toxicological Mechanisms, Toxicological Pathology)
  • Background and knowledge adequate to teach in elective toxicology courses (Risk Assessment, Environmental Toxicology, One Health Toxicology)
  • Clearly articulated plans for obtaining funding for toxicology research
  • Publication record or other evidence of direct involvement in research related to toxicology.

Salary Range

$85,000-$95,000, Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
