About The Role

Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Science , Mount Sinai Health System The Safety and Quality Manager leads incident investigation and reporting and identifies, assesses, and recommends solutions for quality improvement and risk‑management concerns. The role supports staff education and competency initiatives and coordinates compliance with Joint Commission and other regulatory standards through effective interdisciplinary communication. This position advances clinical excellence across obstetric and gynecologic services by integrating quality improvement, patient safety, and Labor and Birth Unit research coordination to promote high‑reliability, evidence‑based care. Serving as a strategic liaison among clinical teams, research investigators, and institutional leadership, the Manager ensures optimal OB/GYN quality and safety outcomes.

Safety and Quality Lead incident investigation and reporting, recommending quality improvement and risk‑management solutions, and supporting excellence in patient care and departmental goals Ensure compliance with Joint Commission (TJC), New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH), New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH), and institutional standards; maintain and update OB/GYN specialty policies Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including nursing, neonatology, infection control, and Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance (QI/QA) to advance safety and regulatory readiness Facilitate safety huddles, debriefs, multidisciplinary reviews, and structured analyses such as Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) Conduct targeted chart audits, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs), and prepare data‑driven reports to support accountability and continuous improvement Collect, audit, and submit regulatory and institutional data; maintain databases supporting audits, performance tracking, and corrective action plans; respond to protocol‑related inquiries Assess staff educational needs and deliver training on patient safety, research ethics, and perinatal best practices; promote high‑reliability principles including Situation‑Background‑Assessment‑Recommendation (SBAR) communication, teamwork training, and Just Culture Disseminate national standards, evidence‑based models, and institutional guidelines to clinical and research staff Serve as liaison for Labor and Birth Unit research activities, overseeing screening, enrollment, informed consent, Institutional Review Board (IRB) compliance, and supervision of research coordinators Provide education and promote high‑reliability culture by developing and delivering training on patient safety, research ethics, and perinatal best practices; reinforcing SBAR communication, teamwork, and Just Culture; and disseminating national standards, evidence‑based models, and institutional guidelines to clinical and research staff Research Oversight and Coordination Serve as the primary point of contact for Labor and Birth Unit research activities, ensuring effective coordination between clinical and research teams Support clinical trials and observational studies by managing patient screening, enrollment, and informed consent processes Ensure compliance with Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements, institutional protocols, ethical standards, and data‑privacy guidelines Supervise and mentor clinical research coordinators and support investigators conducting perinatal research Participate in feasibility assessments for proposed research projects involving perinatal populations Maintain organized, compliant specimen‑collection spaces and coordinate inventory and supply needs for research activities

Master’s Degree required, preferably in a health science 3+ years’ experience with a preferred minimum of 2 years in a clinical role and exposure to quality and safety management Licensing and Certification Requirements Current NYS clinical licensure in a relevant field (i.e., RN, NP, PA, Social Work, Mental Health Counselor, or related) is preferred. Computer Skills MS Office Suite-Intermediate preferred General Skills and Competencies Excellent written and interpersonal Skills Excellent organizational and decision-making skills Demonstrated knowledge of quality management and/or Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) principles and New York State Department of Mental Hygiene and Joint Commission standards and regulations
