Pay: Starting at $34.00/hour (higher compensation available based on experience)
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Structural Steel Fabrication Team Lead to oversee a crew of fitters and welders in a fast-paced fabrication facility. This role is ideal for a hands-on leader with a strong fitting and fabrication background who can guide a team while maintaining high standards for safety, quality, and productivity.
The successful candidate will lead by example, assist with complex fabrication challenges, and work closely with production leadership to ensure projects are completed on schedule.
Please Note: Candidates must have experience in a structural steel fabrication environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the Shop Foreman and department leaders to prioritize work and meet production schedules
- Lead and support fitters, welders, and fabrication personnel throughout the shift
- Assign daily tasks and balance workloads to maximize productivity
- Provide technical guidance related to fabrication methods, blueprint interpretation, welding techniques, and shop procedures
- Monitor production progress and adjust assignments to meet changing priorities and delivery deadlines
- Coordinate with the maintenance team to help keep fabrication equipment operating efficiently
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, and accountability while ensuring company policies are followed
- Work closely with the Quality Control team to maintain AISC quality standards
- Assist with employee onboarding, training, performance evaluations, coaching, timecard review, and disciplinary documentation when needed
- Offer recommendations to improve shop operations, employee development, and production efficiency
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support shop operations
Required Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication, welding, fitting, layout, and material handling
- Experience working with CNC fabrication equipment
- Understanding of production planning, quality control, safety practices, and cost awareness
- Ability to interpret fabrication drawings and support fabrication teams with technical questions
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with production, quality, maintenance, and leadership teams
- Willingness to work overtime and Saturdays as required
- High school diploma or GED required
Preferred Qualifications
- Technical certification or Associate degree in Welding, Manufacturing, Industrial Technology, or a related field
- Previous experience in a lead, supervisor, or team leader role within a structural steel fabrication environment
- Experience maintaining AISC quality standards
- Familiarity with CNC fabrication equipment and production workflow optimization
