Position Summary

  • Nscale is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager to support operations
  • at our North Carolina data center facility located in Madison, NC. This is a fully on-site role
  • serving as the primary EHS leader responsible for implementing and maintaining programs
  • that protect employees, contractors, visitors, and business operations while ensuring
  • compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and company standards.
  • The EHS Manager will partner closely with Data Center Operations, Security, Logistics,
  • Facilities Management, contractors, and the colocation provider to promote a strong safety
  • culture, support operational readiness, and drive continuous improvement in environmental,
  • health, and safety performance.
  • This position reports directly to the Director, EHS Operations & Sustainability – North
  • America.

Work Location

  • This is a fully on-site position based in Madison, North Carolina.
  • Daily presence at the facility is required to support operational activities, contractor
  • oversight, incident response, regulatory compliance, and engagement with the colocation
  • provider and Nscale operations teams.
  • Candidates must be located in, or willing to relocate to, the Madison, NC area.

Key Responsibilities

EHS Program Management

  • ● Implement and maintain site EHS programs, procedures, and standards.
  • ● Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local environmental, health,
  • and safety regulations.
  • ● Conduct routine inspections, audits, risk assessments, and workplace evaluations.
  • ● Track corrective actions and ensure timely resolution of identified issues.
  • ● Support implementation of corporate EHS initiatives, management systems, and
  • reporting requirements.
  • Safety Leadership & Culture
  • Promote a proactive safety culture through employee engagement, coaching, and
  • visible leadership.
  • ● Facilitate safety meetings, training sessions, toolbox talks, and awareness
  • campaigns.
  • ● Serve as a trusted advisor to site leadership on EHS matters.
  • ● Support development of a strong reporting culture for hazards, near misses, and
  • incidents.
  • ● Foster collaboration between Nscale personnel, contractors, and site partners.

Incident Management

  • ● Lead incident reporting, investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action
  • processes.
  • ● Track incidents, near misses, and performance trends.
  • ● Develop lessons learned and communicate findings to site leadership and corporate
  • EHS teams.
  • ● Support emergency response and post-incident reviews.

Colocation Partner Management

  • ● Serve as the primary EHS liaison between Nscale and the colocation facility operator.
  • ● Participate in landlord safety meetings, operational reviews, audits, incident
  • investigations, and emergency preparedness activities.
  • ● Coordinate EHS requirements and expectations between Nscale personnel,
  • contractors, vendors, and the facility operator.
  • ● Ensure Nscale personnel comply with both Nscale EHS requirements and applicable
  • colocation site rules and procedures.
  • ● Support alignment between Nscale operational activities and landlord safety
  • requirements.

Contractor Safety Management

  • ● Manage contractor safety oversight for Nscale activities within the colocation
  • environment.
  • ● Review work activities, risk assessments, permits, and safety plans as required.
  • ● Partner with operations and facilities teams to ensure safe execution of maintenance
  • and project work.
  • ● Monitor contractor compliance with site safety requirements and applicable
  • regulations.
  • Operational Readiness & Business Support
  • ● Support equipment deployments, commissioning activities, logistics operations, and
  • operational expansion efforts within the colocation environment.
  • ● Partner with Operations, Security, Facilities Management, and the colocation provider
  • to identify and mitigate operational risks.
  • ● Participate in operational readiness reviews, site planning activities, and change
  • management processes.
  • ● Support development and implementation of site-specific procedures, work practices,
  • and contractor management programs.

Environmental Compliance

  • ● Support environmental compliance activities applicable to Nscale operations within
  • the colocation facility.
  • ● Coordinate waste management, hazardous materials management, spill prevention,
  • and e-waste programs.
  • ● Maintain required environmental records and documentation.
  • ● Support environmental reporting requirements as applicable.

Emergency Preparedness

  • ● Coordinate Nscale emergency response activities with the colocation provider's
  • emergency management program.
  • ● Participate in emergency drills, tabletop exercises, and business continuity activities.
  • ● Maintain readiness for medical, fire, severe weather, and other emergency scenarios.
  • Training & Compliance
  • ● Deliver EHS onboarding and training programs for employees and contractors.
  • ● Maintain training records and compliance documentation.
  • ● Support implementation and administration of EHS software and reporting systems.
  • ● Monitor compliance with required EHS training and qualification programs.
  • Metrics & Continuous Improvement
  • ● Track and analyze EHS performance metrics and leading indicators.
  • ● Prepare reports and dashboards for site leadership and corporate management.
  • ● Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • ● Support future certification, audit, and management system initiatives as required.

Qualifications

Required

  • ● Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, Industrial
  • Hygiene, Engineering, or related field.
  • ● Minimum 5 years of EHS experience in data centers, mission-critical facilities,
  • manufacturing, industrial operations, energy, technology, telecommunications, or
  • similar environments.
  • ● Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and EHS management systems.
  • ● Experience conducting incident investigations and root cause analyses.
  • ● Strong communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
  • ● Ability to work independently as the primary EHS resource at the site.

Preferred

  • ● Experience supporting data center or critical facilities operations.
  • ● Experience working within a colocation environment.
  • ● CSP, ASP, CHMM, CIH, or similar professional certification.
  • ● Experience managing contractor safety programs.
  • ● Experience with EHS software platforms and compliance management systems.

Travel

Limited travel within North America for training, collaboration, audits, and company

meetings. Primary schedule is on-site at the North Carolina facility.

This role offers the opportunity to establish and lead EHS programs for a strategically

important colocation data center while helping shape the future of safe, sustainable, and

reliable operations across a rapidly growing organization.

The range below reflects the base salary for the position. Actual compensation may vary based on job-related factors such as skill set, experience, education, and location. In addition to base salary, this role may be eligible for bonus, equity, and/or commission programs. Nscale may offer a competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, flexible paid time off, parental leave, and retirement plan participation.

Salary Range

  • $100,000 — $170,000 USD
