Role: Metallurgist Location: Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar , Maharashtra Reporting to: IQC Head Team name: Incoming Quality Control About the Team and the Role The Quality team at Ather is responsible for acting as the guardian of engineering precision and product excellence. This role is for a Metallurgist - IQC who will lead the most technical frontier of our manufacturing quality—the metallurgy lab. You will be responsible for ensuring that every component, from welding processes and heat treatment to complex assemblies, meets exact engineering specifications while leading metallurgy testing for New Product Development (NPD) and running models. Responsibilities Oversee metallurgy lab operations to ensure component integrity through the application of advanced measurement technologies. Conduct mechanical testing including tensile, hardness, and impact tests, along with microscopic evaluations like metallography and SEM analysis. Refine and oversee heat treatment cycles, forging parameters, and casting processes to achieve specific microstructures and mechanical properties. Lead root-cause investigations into component failures using forensic metallurgical techniques and provide actionable recommendations to prevent recurrence. Manage internal and external calibration schedules and verify compliance with international standards like ISO 17025. Document findings in comprehensive technical reports that translate complex metallurgical data into clear insights for stakeholders. Collaborate across IPQC, PQ, SQA, and Engineering teams to resolve chronic component issues and minimize downtime through scheduled inspections. Provide expert troubleshooting for quality deviations and identify opportunities to optimize inspection workflows and control processes. Experience and Qualifications B Tech in Metallurgy or Mechanical. 6 to 8 Years. Must Have Competencies Operation and application of SMAW, GTAW, GMAW, and SAW welding processes and their effects on crystalline structures. Execution of heat treatment processes including Annealing, Quenching, and Tempering to manipulate material properties. Operation of analytical equipment such as Optical Emission Spectrometers (OES), Hardness Testers, and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) interpretation. Application of international material grading systems and standardized testing protocols to manufacturing environments. Good to Have Competencies Systematic troubleshooting of manufacturing defects such as porosity, inclusions, or grain growth. Management of metallurgical testing specifically for New Product Development (NPD) and running models. Verification of compliance with ISO 17025 standards and management of external calibration scopes. Evaluation of microstructures and phase transformations through metallography and SEM analysis.
