About The Role
Role: Senior Cost Engineer - Mechanical Location: IBC Knowledge Park, Bengaluru Reporting to: Senior Manager - Costing & Budgeting Team name: Costing & Budgeting Team About the Team and the Role The Costing & Budgeting team at Ather is responsible for driving financial precision and strategic cost management across the product lifecycle, ensuring competitive pricing through rigorous analysis and supplier alignment. This role is for a Cost Engineer - Mechanical who will be instrumental in developing zero-based cost models, managing commodity price fluctuations, and providing technical-commercial expertise to optimize the value of mechanical components and tooling. Responsibilities Develop zero-based costing for casting, machining, plastics, sheet metal, fabrication, and forging, with deep expertise in at least two commodities. Execute teardown analysis and directional costing for competitor benchmarking and build-to-spec parts. Perform directional tooling costing specifically for injection molding and sheet metal applications. Quantify the cost impact of design and process modifications to maintain budget integrity during part changes. Manage RM and Forex indexing, evaluating supplier price increase requests through updated cost models. Assess supplier quotes and provide technical/commercial feedback aligned with "should cost" targets. Maintain a comprehensive cost engineering database and develop standardized costing templates for all mechanical commodities. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to review supplier proposals and ensure alignment with financial project goals, including prototype and obsolescence costs. Experience and Qualifications BE in Mechanical Engineering 3-5 years of experience in Should costing and product development Must Have Competencies Develop comprehensive zero-based costing models for diverse mechanical commodities including casting, machining, and plastics. Apply advanced should-costing methodologies to evaluate supplier quotes and technical proposals. Execute detailed teardown and directional costing for competitor benchmarking and build-to-spec components. Manage complex financial aspects of engineering projects, including prototype budgeting and RM/Forex indexing. Good to Have Competencies Utilize secondary process knowledge in surface treatments, welding, and coatings for accurate cost estimation. Apply shop floor manufacturing experience to enhance the accuracy of process-based costing. Implement directional tooling costing for complex injection molding and sheet metal tools.
