Job responsibilities

  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements including sales, procurement, distribution, logistics, export, and IP-related contracts.
  • Provide practical legal advice to support business operations while effectively managing legal and contractual risks.
  • Lead and manage litigation and disputes, including overseeing external counsel and settlement strategies.
  • Advise on corporate governance, regulatory compliance, licensing, import/export, sanctions, and cross-border legal matters across Southeast Asia.
  • Support corporate secretarial matters, including board resolutions, minutes, statutory records, and regulatory filings.
  • Develop and maintain legal templates, policies, SOPs, and compliance programmes.
  • Conduct legal training and drive legal process improvements across the organisation.
  • Partner closely with stakeholders across Sales, Procurement, Supply Chain, IT, Finance, and other business functions.

Job requirements

  • Qualified lawyer admitted to the Malaysian Bar or another Commonwealth jurisdiction.
  • Minimum 12 years' post-qualification experience (PQE).
  • Combination of experience in a reputable law firm and an in-house legal role within a multinational corporation.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing and/or FMCG businesses is highly preferred.
  • Regional legal experience covering Southeast Asian markets.
  • Strong commercial contracting, corporate governance, compliance, and dispute management experience.
  • Able to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and provide commercially pragmatic legal advice.
  • Excellent stakeholder management, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Fluent in English; Mandarin and/or Bahasa Malaysia would be advantageous
