Position Overview
We are seeking a Safety Specialist to support the implementation and daily execution of workplace safety programs within a manufacturing and fabrication environment. This hands-on role focuses on hazard recognition, employee engagement, safety compliance, and promoting a strong safety culture throughout operations.
The ideal candidate will maintain a visible presence on the production floor, work closely with employees and supervisors, and help ensure safe and efficient workplace practices.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Monitoring & Employee Support
- Maintain a regular presence throughout manufacturing and fabrication operations.
- Observe work activities and identify potential safety concerns before incidents occur.
- Interact with employees and supervisors to encourage safe work habits and reinforce safety expectations.
- Promote employee participation in safety programs and continuous improvement efforts.
- Support the development of a positive safety culture across the organization.
Workplace Inspections & Risk Reduction
- Conduct routine safety audits, inspections, and behavioral observations.
- Identify hazards and recommend practical solutions to improve workplace safety.
- Document findings and monitor corrective actions through completion.
- Assist with compliance efforts related to company policies and applicable regulations.
- Support ongoing hazard recognition and risk reduction initiatives.
Training & Safety Communication
- Assist with onboarding and safety orientation programs for new hires.
- Participate in the delivery of toolbox talks, safety briefings, and training sessions.
- Provide day-to-day coaching and guidance regarding safe work practices.
- Help communicate safety procedures, expectations, and program updates throughout the facility.
Incident Response & Investigation
- Support reporting and documentation of incidents, injuries, and near-miss events.
- Participate in investigations to determine root causes and contributing factors.
- Assist in developing corrective and preventive action plans.
- Follow up on implemented solutions to verify effectiveness and compliance.
Documentation & Program Support
- Maintain safety records, training logs, inspection reports, and compliance documentation.
- Assist with internal audits and regulatory reporting requirements.
- Support the continuous improvement of safety programs, procedures, and operational practices.
- Help ensure accurate and organized recordkeeping related to workplace safety activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Risk Management, Industrial Technology, or a related field; equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Two or more years of experience in safety, EHS, manufacturing, industrial operations, or risk management environments preferred.
- Knowledge of workplace safety practices, hazard recognition techniques, and incident investigation methods.
- Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to establish positive working relationships with employees, supervisors, and management.
- Professional certifications such as ASP, CSP, or related credentials are preferred.
- Ability to work comfortably in active manufacturing and fabrication environments.
