QA Automation Engineer
Swtch · Toronto, Canada
About The Role
Join our team as a QA Automation Engineer and help us ensure our products are reliable, scalable, and deliver an exceptional customer experience. You will design and build our automated end-to-end testing practice from the ground up, working closely with Product and Engineering. You will own the definition of test strategy and testing standards, develop and execute automated test suites, and mentor and train engineers on testing practices. This role offers remote, hybrid, or in-office working options and health benefits starting day 1.
- Design and build the automated end-to-end testing practice from the ground up, working closely with Product and Engineering teams.
- Own the definition of test strategy and testing standards, and develop and execute automated functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end test suites.
- Mentor and train engineers on writing, maintaining, and extending automated tests, and perform manual/exploratory testing where automation isn't yet in place.
- Proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript; Ruby experience is a plus given our Rails services
- Experience mentoring or upskilling other engineers in testing practices
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills; excellent communication
- Hands-on experience with test automation frameworks (Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or similar)
- Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile practices
- 5+ years of experience in Software Quality Assurance, including 3+ years focused on test automation
- Experience designing an automated testing practice from scratch — not just extending one that already exists
- Experience in testing web applications, APIs, mobile apps and backend services
- Comfort partnering with Product Managers who rely on you to help surface testing needs and edge cases
- Experience testing REST APIs (Postman or similar)
- Experience with IoT, connected devices, or hardware-interfacing software — this is the environment you'd be working in day to day, though not a requirement
- Experience with EV charging, OCPP, or similar device-communication protocols
- Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Performance or load testing experience
