About The Role

Join Tenstorrent, a leading AI accelerator company, as a Software Engineer on the Metal Runtime team. In this role, you will design and develop high-performance runtime systems and APIs that interface with our AI hardware. You will work closely with various teams to build scalable, production-ready interfaces and contribute to runtime implementation, debugging, and performance optimization. This position is ideal for those who enjoy low-level systems programming and want to make a significant impact in the AI infrastructure space.

  • Design and evolve high-performance host and device APIs for Tenstorrent's Metal Runtime, ensuring they encode hardware semantics and performance tradeoffs.
  • Develop intuitive abstractions that expose low-level hardware capabilities while maintaining performance and control, collaborating closely with runtime, kernel, compiler, and software teams.
  • Contribute to runtime implementation, debugging, performance optimization, and API integration across the software stack, driving API quality through thoughtful design and usability improvements.
  • If you enjoy pushing performance, working close to the metal, and designing abstractions that make complex systems usable without sacrificing control, this is your kind of role
  • We welcome candidates at various experience levels for this role. During the interview process, candidates will be assessed for the appropriate level, and offers will align with that level, which may differ from the one in this posting
  • Experienced in designing clean, maintainable APIs and abstractions with a focus on developer experience
  • Strong C/C++ developer with a passion for low-level systems programming and software that runs close to hardware
  • Comfortable working with concurrency, processors, memory movement, and performance-critical systems
  • Thoughtful about balancing performance, usability, and long-term maintainability in systems design
  • Collaborative, curious, and excited to solve challenging problems at the intersection of hardware and software
  • Due to U.S. export laws, including those codified in the U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the Company is required to ensure compliance with these laws when transferring technology to nationals of certain countries (such as EAR Country Groups D:1, E1, and E2)
