Substitute Education Assistants

Are you committed to helping students achieve success? ACES is seeking Substitute Education Assistants to work in our partner district, Ansonia Public Schools in Ansonia, CT. The individual works in conjunction with the special and regular education teachers to support and assist students to achieve successful outcomes; academic, social and physical. Works with individual students or small groups of students.

This is a substitute position. Work is provided on an as-needed basisto cover staff absences and program needs. Substitute Education Assistants are not guaranteed a minimum number of hours or days of work.

When work is available, you may be contacted to work up to 4-5 days a weekfor up to 6-7 hours per day, based on operational needs. Work schedules, locations, and assignments may vary and will be communicated in advance whenever possible.

General duties

  • Assists the teacher with instruction support, student monitoring and material organization.
  • Assists students during transitions and supervises during class assignments.
  • Assists with supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, play periods, field trips, and instructional activities.
  • Ensure the learning environment is clean and safe.
  • Reports observations to lead teacher.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Experience

  • Some college preferred, with a focus on education.
  • High School Diploma/GED will be considered with experience.
  • Ability to follow behavior plans/procedures.
  • Ability to work well with students, staff and parents in a professional manner.
  • Experience working in school settings.
  • Collaboration, organization and teamwork skills.
