- within community centers and school partnerships.
- Reporting to the Program Director, the Lead Group Leader is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the
- afterschool program while providing leadership to Group Leaders and ensuring the delivery of safe, engaging, and
- high-quality programming for elementary-aged youth. The Lead Group Leader serves as a role model for staff by
- coordinating daily program operations, maintaining accurate program records, supporting student engagement and
- retention, and ensuring compliance with East Side House and DOE program expectations. As a member of the
- Afterschool Leadership Team, the Lead Group Leader is expected to provide guidance, coaching, and day-to-day
- support to Group Leaders while fostering a collaborative, positive, and student-centered environment. This position
- does not provide formal supervision but offers daily operational leadership and direction to Group Leaders and
- Program Assistants and collaborates with school administration, Education Specialists, families, Human Resources,
- and other East Side House departments as needed. With a focus on program quality, youth development,
- compliance, and staff support, the Lead Group Leader ensures the successful implementation of daily programming
- and positive outcomes for participants.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Program Director, the Lead Group Leader will be responsible for, but not limited to,
the following
- Lead and model high-quality youth development practices while supporting the daily operation of the
afterschool program.
- Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and support to Group Leaders and Program Assistants, redirecting
staff as needed to ensure program expectations are met.
- Assist with coordinating daily staff assignments, classroom coverage, and transitions throughout the
program day.
- Plan, facilitate, and support educational, recreational, literacy, STEM, leadership, arts, and enrichment
activities.
- Develop and implement lesson plans and ensure program activities align with East Side House objectives.
- Prepare daily dismissal procedures and ensure students are dismissed safely according to agency and school
protocols.
- Complete and maintain the weekly snack roster and ensure accurate snack distribution records.
- Update student attendance and enrollment rosters monthly and maintain accurate participant records
within agency reporting systems.
- Monitor daily attendance, follow up on absences, and conduct family outreach to improve attendance and
participant retention.
- Assist with participant recruitment and community outreach efforts to maintain enrollment goals.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with students, families, school personnel, and community
partners.
- Support homework assistance and provide academic intervention when needed.
- Maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment while implementing positive behavior
management strategies.
- Inspect classrooms, supplies, and equipment daily to ensure cleanliness, organization, and safety.
- Ensure compliance with all East Side House, DOE, and DOH policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Assist the Program Director with collecting required documentation, maintaining compliance records, and
preparing reports.
- Participate in supervision meetings, staff meetings, professional development, and all required trainings.
- Assist with implementing emergency procedures and ensuring staff are familiar with emergency protocols.
- Provide coverage during staff absences and support special events, family engagement activities, field trips,
and program-wide initiatives.
- Travel to East Side House program locations throughout New York City as needed.
- Wear the required East Side House staff uniform while on duty.

Qualifications
- To perform this position successfully, the Lead Group Leader must be able to fulfill all the elements of the job
- description to the highest standard and be able to work well with colleagues in a high energy and collaborative work
environment. Additional qualifications include
Education / Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Human
Services, Child Development, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with elementary-aged youth in an afterschool, school,
camp, or community-based program.
- Previous experience serving in a leadership or senior staff role within a youth development program
preferred.
- Demonstrated experience supporting program operations, attendance tracking, family engagement, and
staff coordination.
- Strong classroom management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working in racially, culturally, and socioeconomically diverse communities.

Clearance
- DOE and DOH must clear employees to work at this ESH site. Employment is contingent upon successful completion
- of clearance and background checks and/or screenings.
Supervisory Responsibility
- This position provides day-to-day leadership, guidance, and operational support to Group Leaders and Program
- Assistants. While the Lead Group Leader does not directly supervise staff performance evaluations, they assist the
- Program Director in monitoring staff performance, providing coaching, coordinating daily assignments, and
- ensuring program expectations are met.
Physical Demands
- This role may involve occasional lifting or moving of items up to 25 pounds and routine use of standard office

Expected Work Schedule
- The work schedule expected for this position is Monday – Friday from 2pm – 6pm, beginning in October 2026 and
- ending in June 2027. The schedule may be adjusted based on ESH’s operational needs, with notice provided
- whenever possible
