Job Description Job Description (JD) – Deputy Manager – New Product Development (NPD) – BESS Position Deputy Manager – New Product Development (NPD) – Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Department Research & Development (R&D) / Engineering Reporting To Manager / Senior Manager – R&D & Product Development Location Corporate Office / Manufacturing Plant Experience 7–10 Years Qualification B.E./B.Tech in Electrical, Electronics, Mechanical, Mechatronics, Energy Engineering or equivalent. <M.Tech/MBA> (Technology Management) preferred. Certification in Project Management (PMP/PRINCE2) is an added advantage. Job Summary The Deputy Manager – NPD (BESS) is responsible for leading the end-to-end development of Battery Energy Storage System products, from concept and design to prototype validation, certification, pilot production, and commercialization. The role requires strong technical expertise in lithium-ion battery systems, Battery Management Systems (BMS), power electronics, thermal management, and cross-functional coordination to deliver innovative, reliable, and cost-effective products. Similar industry roles emphasize end-to-end product development, testing, validation, compliance, and collaboration across engineering and manufacturing teams. Key Responsibilities Product Development Lead complete New Product Development (NPD) lifecycle for BESS products. Define product specifications based on customer and market requirements. Develop innovative BESS solutions for Utility, C&I, and Renewable Energy applications. Drive prototype development and product improvements. System Design Design and integrate: Battery Packs & Modules Battery Management System (BMS) Power Conversion System (PCS) Energy Management System (EMS) Thermal Management System Fire Protection System Containerized BESS Solutions Engineering & Validation Prepare engineering calculations and technical specifications. Conduct Design Verification (DVT), Product Validation (PVT), Reliability Testing and Environmental Testing. Perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA). Ensure compliance with customer specifications. Compliance & Certification Coordinate certification with NABL/UL/IEC accredited laboratories. Ensure compliance with: IEC 62619 IEC 62933 UL 9540 UL 9540A IEC 61000 IEEE Standards BIS Requirements Support documentation for product approvals. Cross Functional Coordination Coordinate with: Mechanical Design Electrical Design Embedded Software Manufacturing Supply Chain Quality Assurance Procurement Projects & Commissioning Sales & Marketing Project Management Prepare project schedules and milestones. Track NPD timelines. Manage engineering changes (ECN/ECR). Drive cost reduction and value engineering initiatives. Monitor risks and mitigation plans. Supplier Development Evaluate new technology suppliers. Support localization initiatives. Validate new components and alternate vendors. Work with suppliers during prototype development. Documentation Prepare and maintain: Design Documents BOM Product Specifications Test Reports Validation Reports DFMEA/PFMEA SOPs Engineering Change Notes Technical Manuals Team Leadership Mentor Design Engineers and Graduate Engineer Trainees. Allocate engineering tasks. Conduct technical reviews. Drive continuous improvement and innovation culture.
