About The Role
Key Responsibilities 1. Power Plant Electrical Systems Operation and maintenance of generators, transformers, switchgear, motors, and protection systems. Monitoring electrical equipment performance and ensuring uninterrupted power generation. Troubleshooting electrical faults and coordinating repairs. 2. High-Voltage Equipment Managing substations, transmission interfaces, circuit breakers, isolators, and protection relays. Conducting testing and commissioning of new electrical equipment. Ensuring compliance with grid and safety standards. 3. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance Preparing maintenance schedules. Analyzing equipment condition through testing and diagnostics. Reducing forced outages and improving plant availability. 4. Project Execution Reviewing electrical drawings and specifications. Supervising contractors during erection and commissioning activities. Coordinating with civil, mechanical, instrumentation, and control teams. 5. Safety & Compliance Following electrical safety procedures and permit systems. Ensuring compliance with regulations from organizations such as Central Electricity Authority and other statutory bodies. Conducting safety audits and risk assessments. 6. Renewable Energy Projects In NTPC's solar and renewable projects, engineers may also work on: Solar PV systems Inverters and power conversion systems Battery energy storage systems Grid integration and SCADA monitoring Typical Technical Areas Power System Protection Switchgear & Protection Relays Transformers Generators HV/LV Distribution Systems SCADA & Automation Electrical Testing and Commissioning Energy Management Systems Skills Required Knowledge of power systems and electrical machines. Understanding of protection relays and electrical drawings. Familiarity with standards such as IEC, IEEE, and IS codes. Troubleshooting and analytical skills. Project management and contractor coordination. Career Progression in NTPC A typical engineering career path may be: Executive Trainee (through GATE recruitment) Engineer Senior Engineer Manager Senior Manager AGM / GM and higher leadership roles Work Environment Power plant operations (thermal, hydro, gas, solar) Shift duties may be required in O&M roles.
