About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Bookkeeper to support an Australian accounting firm. In this role, you will deliver accurate, timely, and technology-driven bookkeeping services to SME clients using cloud-based tools, primarily Xero.
You will play a key role in maintaining high-quality financial data that supports business advisory and compliance work.
Key Responsibilities
SME Bookkeeping
- Process daily financial transactions
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
- Manage accounts payable and receivable
- Maintain general ledgers
- Process payroll and superannuation (if applicable)
- Prepare BAS data for accountant review
Xero System Management
- Manage and maintain client Xero files
- Ensure accurate coding and chart of accounts structure
- Maintain bank feeds and integrations
- Assist with Xero setup, optimisation, and client queries
Compliance Support
- Prepare BAS-related data for review
- Ensure accurate GST coding
- Support compliance deadlines through timely bookkeeping
Client Communication
- Request missing information from clients
- Respond to bookkeeping queries
- Support clients in using accounting software
Data Integrity and Reporting
- Maintain clean and accurate financial records
- Identify discrepancies and resolve issues
- Support financial reporting preparation
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with accountants and managers
- Ensure data is ready for compliance and advisory work
Technology and Continuous Improvement
- Use cloud-based accounting tools effectively
- Identify opportunities for automation and efficiency
- Stay updated with Xero and industry developments
Experience Required
- 3 to 5+ years of bookkeeping experience
- Experience working with SME clients
- Strong hands-on experience with Xero is essential
Qualifications
- Certificate IV in Bookkeeping or Accounting, or higher, preferred
Software
- Xero
- Microsoft Excel
- Cloud-based accounting tools and integrations
