Your role at Clorox

The Regulatory Affairs Specialist II provides regulatory leadership to support the compliance and safety of Clorox’s FDA-regulated Foods portfolio, including U.S. and Canada regulatory requirements, as well as the Kingsford business. This role resides within the Product Safety and Regulatory Affairs (PS&RA) function of the R&D organization.

The successful candidate will play a key role in enabling new product launches and maintaining regulatory compliance for existing products. Responsibilities include interpreting regulatory requirements, assessing risks, and providing clear, actionable recommendations that guide teams toward compliant, commercially viable solutions while enabling timely commercialization.

This role requires strong cross-functional collaboration, working daily with partners across R&D (e.g., Product Development), Product Safety, Legal, Corporate Quality, Government Affairs, and Consumer Affairs. The individual represents PS&RA on project teams with minimal guidance, translating complex regulatory frameworks into practical direction for stakeholders.

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly collaborative, and comfortable navigating complex and sometimes ambiguous regulatory frameworks. They demonstrate strong business acumen, effectively distinguish critical requirements from lower-risk considerations, and apply the appropriate level of rigor to enable both compliance and business growth.

In this role, you will

Provide Regulatory Leadership for Innovation & Commercialization (55%)

  • Serve as the regulatory representative on cross-functional project teams, providing proactive, risk-based guidance, including support for the Canada Foods business.
  • Review formulations, supplier documentation, claims, ingredient statements/nutrition information, and labels to ensure regulatory compliance for product innovation and commercialization.
  • Interpret regulations to recommend compliant and commercially viable pathways and be able to translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, practical guidance for stakeholders.
  • Identify regulatory risks early and propose mitigation strategies.
  • Support licensing activities, as needed.

Oversee Brand Maintenance & Lifecycle Management (25%)

  • Provide ongoing regulatory support for existing products, including formula/label updates and issue resolution.
  • Monitor regulatory changes (e.g., federal, state, global trends) and translate impacts into actionable changes.
  • Work with Consumer Affairs to develop consumer-facing responses, providing regulatory guidance to ensure accuracy, consistency, and appropriate interpretation of product claims, ingredients, and safety information.

Monitor the Certification Program (10%)

  • Lead regulatory activities supporting third-party certifications (e.g., Kosher, Halal, Organic).
  • Coordinate submission dossiers, data verification, and renewal processes.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and certifying bodies to ensure compliance and continuity.

Manage Regulatory Registrations (10%)

  • Manage state and federal Food facility registrations and product registrations for Kingsford.
  • Ensure timely submissions to avoid business disruption.

What we look for

  • Bachelor of Science degree in a relevant technical field (e.g., Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, Biology).
  • 4+ years of FDA Foods regulatory experience within the CPG industry.
  • Strong working knowledge of FDA regulations (e.g., FD&C Act) and Canadian regulatory frameworks, including labeling, claims, ingredients, and formulation requirements.
  • Hands-on experience with third-party certifications (e.g. Kosher, Halal, Organic).
  • Experience with state and federal registrations and a solid understanding of the FDA enforcement landscape, including emerging trends and state vs federal dynamics.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop regulatory strategies, assess risk, and influence cross-functional teams to drive compliant outcomes.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven problem-solving skills and sound judgment in navigating complex and ambiguous situations.
  • Collaborative, team-oriented mindset with a strong sense of accountability and ownership.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Genesis or similar labeling systems.
  • Experience with regulatory and product lifecycle management systems (e.g., PLM, Veeva).
  • Familiarity with global food regulatory frameworks.

Hybrid: This individual will work onsite in the office 3 days a week and 2 days remotely.
