Clinic Receptionist - Horizons - FT Essential Responsibilities

Responsibilities listed in this section are core to the position. Inability to perform these responsibilities with or without an accommodation may result in disqualification from the position.

  • Greets and registers patients or other visitors, informs staff of patients' arrival, and directs patients to appropriate department or examination room.
  • Gathers and updates patient contact or other personal information.
  • Collects and inputs patient insurance information and verifies active coverage or eligibility.
  • Collects co-pays or other fees due to the facility.
  • Answers and transfers phone calls, schedules appointments, arranges for referrals, or relays messages.
  • May perform occasional clerical duties, such as data entry, filing, or photocopying; clerical duties may require experience with medical records or electronic health record systems.
  • Act in accordance with the established mission, vision, and values.
  • Abide by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability privacy and security regulations regarding all aspects of Protected Health Information (PHI).
  • Maintain effective communication and professional working relationships with patients/clients and their representatives, team members, contractors, physicians, peers, outside agencies, and the public.

Minimum Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent training and experience.

Required License/Certifications/Registrations

  • Valid Kansas Driver’s License if job requires

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred Education and Experience

  • General office experience.
  • Previous customer service.

Preferred License/Certifications/Registrations

  • Certified Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Aide

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of medical transcription, medical terminology and various software programs.
  • Working knowledge of various computer programs (Word, Excel).
  • Working knowledge of office equipment, i.e. copier, fax machine, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively.
  • Working knowledge of Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

Physical Requirements

With or without accommodation.

  • Light Work: Occasionally exerting up to 25 lbs - frequently exerting up to 10 lbs. 11-25% of the day may be standing or walking.
