Fine Arts teacher K-8 Grade
Location: 5701 W McDowell Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85035
- Start Date: 2026–2027 School Year
- Compensation Range: $48,331.25 – $54,571.88 annually (DOE)
Position Overview
Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing K–8 public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities.
AMS is seeking a passionate and student-centered Fine Arts Teacher to provide engaging, standards-aligned instruction in visual arts while fostering creativity, artistic expression, critical thinking, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
AMS teachers are collaborative professionals who believe all scholars can achieve at high levels through structured instruction, strong classroom culture, and consistent data-driven decision-making.
This role requires a teacher who is committed to supporting students in Title I communities while maintaining high academic expectations and creating a safe, engaging, and inclusive classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Student Achievement
- Deliver rigorous, standards-aligned Fine Arts instruction aligned with Arizona Academic Standards and AMS curriculum frameworks.
- Plan and implement engaging lessons that develop students' artistic skills, creativity, and appreciation for the visual arts.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic needs and artistic abilities of all learners.
- Utilize formative and summative assessment data to guide instructional planning and student growth.
- Foster creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving through a variety of artistic media and techniques.
- Maintain accurate student records, grades, portfolios, and progress monitoring documentation.
Classroom Culture & Student Support
- Establish and maintain a structured, positive, and high-expectations classroom environment.
- Implement PBIS and proactive classroom management strategies to promote student engagement and positive behavior.
- Support students' academic, behavioral, social-emotional, and creative growth.
- Build strong relationships that encourage student confidence, responsibility, and artistic expression.
Collaboration & Professional Growth
- Participate in weekly professional development, coaching cycles, and Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, instructional coaches, interventionists, and school leadership to integrate the arts across the curriculum.
- Contribute to school-wide initiatives, student showcases, performances, and campus events.
- Demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional learning and reflective instructional practice.
Family Engagement
- Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress, classroom expectations, and artistic development.
- Conduct parent-teacher conferences and maintain positive partnerships with families.
- Support family engagement through school events, student art exhibitions, conferences, and ongoing communication.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must meet one of the following requirements
- Valid teaching certification in Art, Fine Arts, Elementary Education, or a related subject area; OR
- Bachelor's degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, Education, or a related field; OR
- Minimum of three (3) years of K–8 teaching experience.
Additionally, candidates must
- Demonstrate strong classroom management and instructional planning skills.
- Show commitment to serving Title I schools and multilingual learner communities.
- Utilize data to inform instruction and improve student outcomes.
- Demonstrate professionalism, collaboration, flexibility, and initiative.
- Pass required background checks and obtain an Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
