Paraprofessional (Teacher’s Assistant)
Location: 1780 Betty Ln, Las Vegas, NV 89156
Compensation: $15.50 – $19.00/hour (DOE)
Start Date: Summer 2026
Schedule: Full-Time, On-Site
Position Overview
Academies of Math and Science (AMS) is a network of high-performing public charter schools committed to academic excellence, college readiness, and equitable access to high-quality education for students in historically underserved communities.
AMS is seeking a dedicated and student-centered Paraprofessional (Teacher’s Assistant) to join our team at the Nellis Campus in Las Vegas .
The Paraprofessional works closely with lead teachers and school staff to support instruction, reinforce student learning, and help maintain a structured, safe, and engaging classroom environment. This role plays a critical part in ensuring that all scholars receive the support they need to succeed academically and socially.
The ideal candidate is collaborative, proactive, and passionate about supporting students in a high-expectations learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
Instructional Support
- Assist lead teachers with lesson delivery, classroom activities, and instructional support.
- Work with students in small groups or one-on-one to reinforce skills and reteach concepts.
- Support differentiated instruction and individualized learning plans.
- Prepare instructional materials and assist with classroom setup and organization.
Classroom Culture & Student Support
- Help maintain a structured, safe, and positive classroom environment.
- Support classroom management and transitions throughout the day.
- Supervise students during arrival, dismissal, lunch, and recess to ensure safety and appropriate behavior.
- Support students’ academic, behavioral, and social-emotional development.
Operational & Campus Support
- Substitute for lead teachers as needed to ensure continuity of instruction.
- Assist with grading, documentation, and administrative classroom tasks as directed.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to meet student needs.
- Model professionalism, respect, and high expectations in all interactions.
Qualifications & Competencies
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent and passing score on a paraprofessional exam
OR
- Associate’s degree or higher
- Prior experience working with children, preferably in a school or educational setting
- Ability to successfully complete required Nevada state background checks and clearances
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Preferred
- Bilingual Spanish/English
- Experience working in a Title I or high-need school environment
