Structural Steel Production Supervisor – Evening Shift

About The Role
Position Overview
A high-production steel manufacturing environment is seeking an experienced Lead Fabricator to lead second-shift fabrication operations. This role is responsible for overseeing shop workflow, supporting production efficiency, and ensuring fabrication activities are completed safely, accurately, and on schedule.
The ideal candidate will bring hands-on structural steel fabrication experience along with strong leadership skills and the ability to support welders, fitters, and fabrication personnel in a fast-paced setting.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborate with shop management and department leaders to develop efficient production strategies and meet delivery commitments.
- Lead and supervise fabrication personnel, including fitters and welders, while promoting a culture of safety, quality, and accountability.
- Assign and prioritize work to maximize productivity and support production goals.
- Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting assistance related to fabrication processes, blueprint interpretation, welding practices, and shop procedures.
- Monitor project schedules and adjust manpower assignments as production needs change.
- Coordinate with maintenance personnel to ensure equipment remains operational and production downtime is minimized.
- Establish performance expectations and foster open communication through coaching, feedback, and employee development.
- Partner with Quality Control personnel to ensure compliance with applicable fabrication and quality standards, including AISC requirements.
- Assist with workforce management activities such as interviewing, onboarding, training, performance reviews, timekeeping, and disciplinary documentation.
- Identify opportunities to improve shop efficiency, workflow, and team performance.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support manufacturing operations.
Required Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication, layout techniques, welding practices, and material handling procedures.
- Experience working with CNC fabrication equipment and related manufacturing processes.
- Understanding of production planning, quality control standards, and cost-conscious manufacturing practices.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and compliance with established policies and procedures.
- Ability to work required schedules, including overtime and weekend shifts when necessary.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple departments.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
Education & Preferred Background
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical certifications, trade school training, or an associate degree in a related field are preferred.
- Previous experience leading fabrication, welding, or structural steel production teams is highly desirable.
