Role purpose
To own the full employee lifecycle across the business. The HR Coordinator operates with a high degree of autonomy, partnering directly with the COO on people matters, while maintaining a relationship with the Group HR Manager to ensure alignment with the Group HR policies, standards and best practices.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end recruitment and selection for all roles, in close collaboration with the COO and relevant team leads.
- Conduct employee onboarding and offboarding, including inductions on food safety, hygiene and health & safety requirements for staff working in the processing facility.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date employee files, contracts and records.
- Organize training & development initiatives.
- Organize and coordinate the annual employee performance review cycle.
- Resolve employee relations issues and address grievances, escalating to the COO or Group HR Manager where necessary.
- Address day-to-day employee queries on HR policies, benefits and procedures.
- Organize welfare and engagement activities.
- Support and coordinate disciplinary procedures, ensuring they are conducted fairly and in line with Mauritian labour law.
- Assist management with strategic workforce planning - ensure the company’s workforce has the right size, shape, cost, and agility for the future.
- Provide advice and suggestions for culture-related initiatives, in-line with Group values.
- Assist the COO with talent management (performance management, succession planning, training needs, etc) particularly for key roles.
- Work closely with Management and team members to ensure good work relationships and high employee morale.
- Liaise with the Group HR Manager to align local HR initiatives with wider Group strategy and share best practice across Group companies.
- Analyze trends and HR metrics (e.g. turnover, absenteeism, time-to-hire, training hours) to help develop HR programs and policies.
- Prepare annual HR budget and monitor monthly HR costs.
- Report on HR metrics and key updates to the COO and Group HR Manager on a regular basis.
- Ensure compliance with Mauritian labor regulations and Group policies.
- Support the COO and production team in meeting occupational health & safety and food hygiene requirements for staff working in the processing facility.
- Liaise with regulatory bodies (Ministry of Labour, MRA, etc.) as required.
- Monitor internal HR systems and databases.
- Provide recommendations on usage of HRMS to address personnel needs.
- Review timesheets and attendance records and correct inaccuracies.
- Collaborate with the Group HR department to ensure accurate payroll processing by confirming time and attendance data, commissions, new recruits and leavers, and other payroll-related items.
Qualifications and Experience
- BSc in Human Resources Management or relevant field.
- A minimum of 5 years solid experience in HR practices and people management; exposure to multisite, retail environments, or FMCG would be an advantage.
Knowledge and Technical competencies
- Thorough knowledge of labor Mauritian labour legislation.
- Demonstrate experience with HR metrics.
- Full understanding of HR functions and best practices across the employee lifecycle.
Behavioural Competencies
- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Able to engage effectively with a diverse workforce across production, sales, retail and administration.
- Analytical and goal oriented, with a high level of autonomy, initiative and resilience given the sole HR role.
