Role Overview
This is a real contributor role for a commercially sharp, qualified management accountant who wants to be genuinely embedded in a growing performance brand. You will own monthly management accounts, drive cost and margin analysis, and oversee inventory accounting and act as a financial partner to the wider business. You will work alongside our Financial Controller (who owns systems, compliance, and control), allowing you to focus on management information - and on being the person the wider business comes to when they need to understand the numbers behind a decision.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the management accounts - live and breathe the numbers.
- Own month-end close, coordinating with the internal finance team.
- Provide analysis of product margins across DTC and wholesale channels.
- Own the stock reconciliation process - coordinating with operations teams to ensure stock movements are correctly recorded, and that stock balances are understood and in line with our financial systems.
- Be the numbers person the business turns to. Once you understand what drives our margins, our channels, and our stock, you'll be the natural point of contact when a non-finance colleague needs to sense-check a decision - whether that's a marketing spend proposal, a new product line, or a promotional plan. This isn't a formal "business partner" function with its own KPIs; it's about being close enough to the detail that people trust your read on it, and confident enough to ask "why?" and push back when something doesn't add up.
- Drive process improvements across all areas to reduce manual effort and ensure we're focused on value-adding activities, not just process.
- Fully qualified - CIMA preferred, ACCA or ACA considered.
- Background in consumer product, retail, sportswear, or footwear strongly preferred.
- Experience of owning the Management Accounts process, from production to presentation.
- Experience explaining financial information to non-finance colleagues and answering their questions confidently - this could come from a business partnering role, or simply from being the go-to finance contact in a smaller team.
- Solid inventory/stock accounting experience.
- Comfortable working with NetSuite or equivalent ERP as a key user.
- Comfortable being both strategic and hands-on in a small, fast-moving team.
You are
- Commercially minded - connecting financial insight to real business outcomes.
- A self-starter who takes ownership without needing to be chased.
- A relationship builder - if you don't know the answer to something, you'll quickly learn who does, and build the kind of relationship that means they're happy to give it to you.
- Inquisitive - you want to understand the "why?" and aren't afraid to push back.
- A clear communicator with non-finance stakeholders, able to quickly digest data and ideas and simplify them for others.
- Energised by working in a small business with a roll-your-sleeves-up attitude.
- Looking for a long-term relationship with a business you can grow with. We're ambitious and going places - you should want to come with us.
- 25 days annual leave + bank holidays.
- Generous employee allowance.
- Family/friends discount.
- Quarterly 'Power of Movement' allowance towards physical pursuits (gym membership, race entry, etc.).
- Office gym.
